Cambodia Gambling Halls

[ English ]

There is an appealing background to the Cambodia casinos that lie just over the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, in which gambling hall betting is not legal. Eight gambling dens are situated in a relatively small space in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling halls is in a perfect spot, a 3 to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest wagering centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai laborers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The amazing income acquired from the gambling dens ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a few controls requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is required to be largely Thai; however, funding sources are vague. The borders are officially open from 09:00 to 1700, and though visas are allegedly necessary to cross, there are means around this, as is true of most borders.

The original Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in 1998, leaving just 1 gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked ship gambling den, features one hundred and fifty slot machines and sixty tables. The Naga gambling hall never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat, 4 tables of 21, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The first casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly opened. There are one hundred and fifty slot machines and five tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machines and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred slots and seventy tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slots and 96 table games, including 87 punto banco (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slots and sixty six of the familiar table games, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 gambling halls in Poipet, also in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slots and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-inclusive vacation and hotel compound that contains a number of comforts on top of the gambling hall, which provides 10,000 square feet of 130 slot machines and 88 tables.
